New England Fall 2007

“…amber waves of grain” This phrase from America The Beautiful pops into my head while I take one of my long walks on the trails that border this farm. To me this is quintessential New England or perhaps New England of two centuries ago. Luckily this is just one of several farms still operating in Concord that conjure up images of a simpler time. Sometimes you need to take it a little slower to get a good look at these landscapes that are reminiscent of a time gone by; I recommend on bike or by foot.
My hikes along these lands are my time to stretch my legs and lungs while not crouched in my second home, the car. Transport is presently a big part of our lives; getting my girls to and from their various locations now that the year is back in full swing. Fall brings a flurry of activity and to many of us that whirl of energy feels like accomplishment. Something about us as Americans I guess… action equals progress. I, personally, am lost without a To Do list, but we all need a counterbalance. Setting my eyes on the horizon instead of the dashboard can be just the way to bring into focus that simpler time of long ago…even if it only exists for those of us who didn’t live through it!
