Fall’s Reflection on the Concord River
Oct 17th, 2007 by Lisa
Every now and then when you’re driving toward a destination something catches your eye and your imagination. This kind of beauty exists along Lowell Road in Concord, MA and one is hard pressed not to give in and look sideways, if only for moment. My daughters and I pass this stretch of the Concord River regularly on our trips in and out of town and on this day even they stopped their engrossing back seat game to look at the color and the “upside down trees”. My close to 7 year old, having completed a project in art class that looked at symmetry, couldn’t help but comment on the perfect opposite the water’s reflection created and whether I noticed the symmetry of the two tree lines….1st grade has come a long way since block art and finger painting.
For myself, it made me very grateful that my current commuting path did not include the white knuckled grip on the steering wheel that was characteristic of my years commuting into Boston via Storrow Drive (an experience for any outsider). Traveling Lowell Road is made especially pleasant in the Fall by what can only be described as near perfection in it’s landscape…or as my daughter would clarify with her newly expanded vocabulary…symmetry.
